Artis works in partnership with schools to bring 'oomph' and magic to their curriculum, out of school activities and professional development sessions. We believe children learn best when they are having an enjoyable experience that stretches the boundaries of their minds. What we do is not just about enrichment. It's about creating a bespoke programme around curriculum needs, so children's imaginative thinking relates directly to their classroom learning.

Our programmes are a fusion of music, drama and movement delivered through a classroom theme by an Artis Specialist, a highly trained professional performing artist. Our sessions are also carefully planned to focus on school priorities, whether they be literacy, emotional wellbeing, cultural awareness or fitness.

  • Developing skills

Our staff also gain from involvement in the Artis sessions, so we are getting continuing professional development for both teachers and learning assistants. They can see and learn from the techniques Artis Specialists use, and adapt these for use back in the classroom. In this way we expand the opportunities for pupils to experience creative learning and get the most out of our Artis service.

  • Literacy

There is no doubt the children's knowledge and involvement grows. After their time with Artis, they return bursting with creative and imaginative ideas. Their vocabulary is broader, their ideas more incisive.

  • Fitness

I think the music and movement provides a great opportunity for the girls to be energetic. They really throw themselves into it, especially those who in other types of physical exercise appear reluctant or insecure about freely moving their bodies.

  • Ofsted

The presence of Artis, together with other extra additions to our provision, has helped us move our curriculum rating from 'satisfactory' to 'outstanding'.

  • Raising standards

We've seen a big improvement in our KS2 SATs results. Artis shares in that success for the creative learning they add to our regular teaching programme and by keeping our priorities at the heart of their work.

  • Behaviour

Having worked with pupils for several years, I think it is easy to notice how they now work on a different level to, say, children who are just beginning with Artis sessions. They don't lack confidence, and they are good at concentrating their energies on their work. The children stay on task and are quick to pick up new ideas.

  • PPA

Not only is it a cost-effective way to provide PPA cover, it supports schools who are struggling to develop a more creative approach.

  • Inclusion

I cannot stress enough the quality of our Artis Specialists work with the children this year, which has been carefully linked to classroom themes. All the children - able, shy, SEN - have benefited from Artis input, which culminated in a series of presentations to parents, who gave very positive feedback.

  • Creativity

The Artis approach offers an opportunity for all children to do good work. You don’t need to be the pupil who is at the top of the class to shine in our sessions. Creativity is open to all. I get a real kick out of seeing children do wonderful work and having their moment of recognition.

  • Numeracy

The learning of music emphasises thinking in space and time ... when children learn rhythm, they are learning ratios, fractions and proportion.

  • Transition

At a time of transition the work that Artis is doing with our students is incredible. Our academy is incorporating Artis into the whole curriculum as the benefits are vast, increasing teamwork, confidence and fitness.

  • EAL

When the teacher asks me something I put my hand up. I talk a lot now. I’m very proud. I’m not shy now. I’m happy.
